2016 Mazda3 i Grand Touring Automatic Sedan Review

If you are looking for an outstanding vehicle that has optimal performance while still maintaining the utmost fuel efficiency then you need to search no further. There are two trim levels, the 3i, and the 3s which are then broken down into subcategories: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. All trims feature the rear backup camera. All of the trims above the Sport feature a sunroof, automatic wipers, and automatic headlights. The 3i trim levels use a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder engine that delivers 155 horsepower and up to 41 mpg highway. The 3s trim levels deliver a little more horsepower with a little less fuel efficiency. So don’t let this little compact car fool you, you really do get some bang for your buck.

I bought this car in April of 2016, so it’s been 18 months that I have had the pleasure of being behind the wheel of this little beauty on a daily basis. Mazda offered eight different colors for the 2016 line of this vehicle. The one featured is in Deep Crystal Blue, which is a dark navy blue with spectacular flecks of shimmer that really catch the eye in the light. In darker settings, it almost looks to be black. The interior comes in two different colors, black, and sand. I chose black solely because the last vehicle I drove had a tan interior. The iGrand Touring has leatherette interior, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and red pin stitching all throughout which is an eye-popping contrast to the deep blue paint job. It’s roomy and spacious with plenty of legroom that comfortably seats five.

The safety features of this cargo beyond its blind spot sensors, fog lights, and rear cross-traffic sensors. There are front, side, and overhead airbags and anti-lock brakes. Some unseen, yet worth mentioning safety features are the stability control which automatically senses when the vehicle has exceeded it’s handling limits and reduces engine power. As well as the anti-whiplash headrests. They actively react to rear collision forces and cradle the passengers’ heads in an effort to reduce the likelihood of whiplash.

Last but not least, the 2016 Mazda 3 I Grand Touring receives many high-tech features. A seven-inch touch screen navigation system, Bluetooth audio, and phone controls, voice activation, dual climate control, Sirus XM radio and a premium Bose sound system with nine speakers. So you can seamlessly go from listening to music in your home and pick up right where you left off when you get in the car. And don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to charge multiple devices at one time. Two USB ports and an AUX port, although, if you want to leave your phone in the car to charge while the vehicle is off, you will need to use the AUX port. From my experience, the AUX port does a much better job of sending power to charge devices. Aside from seamlessly going from listening to music in my home and having the car pick up right where I left off, my other favorite high-tech feature is the keyless entry. No need to fumble for your keys anymore. If your hands are full of grocery shopping, you can effortlessly pop your trunk with the touch of a button. As long as your keys are on you, you can unlock and start the car with the push of a button as well. Don’t worry about forgetting to lock your car either. When you get out, you can push the button on either the driver or passenger door handle to lock it. Or use the settings on the touch screen display to have it automatically lock when you walk away. How cool is that?
In all, the 2016 Mazda3 iGrand Touring is a magnificent vehicle. It has tons of tech and luxury on the inside. Under the hood, the four-cylinder engine really gives it some “get up and go”. I could tell you all day about the great features that make driving this car worth it. It’s received top-notch ratings, 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 4.6-star ratings from Edmunds, 4.5 out of 5 stars from Car and Driver, 9 out of 10 stars from Kelly Blue Book, and 4.5 out of 5 from MT.
